do citizen scientists care if the Presidential candidates hold a science debate?

I'm curious to hear from this group. You're out there doing science yet you are, for the most part, removed from the political mess in the science community where folks have to fight for research dollars and lobby hard to persuade Congress on one issue or another. The presidential candidates have largely ignored the science community's call for a Science Debate (and so have I...too self-serving coming from the scientists, frankly). But, I'm interested to hear from citizen scientists. Do you think such a debate is warranted? What science issues should be of top concern to the candidates? What would you ask them if given the opportunity? And, if you think the science debate is a good idea, what are some creative ways we can help enlighten other people like us so they can get involved in shaping the debate. I, for one, wouldn't want the debate to be framed by scientists alone. It would require a promise of real public participation to warrant my attention. Thank you for your thoughts.
